In Aftermath of Comey Firing, 65,000 DFA Members Call for Investigation and Impeachment of Trump

For the First Time in its History, Democracy for America Calls for Impeachment of a Sitting President

Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced that more than 65,000 of its members have signed a petition calling for the investigation and impeachment of Donald Trump in the aftermath of his firing of FBI Director James Comey -- the first time in its history that the organization has called for a sitting president’s impeachment.

Statement from Democracy for America Executive Director Charles Chamberlain:

“Donald Trump has repeatedly violated the constitution by illegally using the government to enrich himself and his family. And by firing FBI Director Comey, he has entered Nixonian territory -- using and abusing his power to obstruct justice and potentially cover up his crimes. This is the third time Trump has fired a high-ranking official who was leading an investigation of his administration.

"Donald Trump has made it clear that he will do anything to prevent the independent  investigation of his illegal conduct, including obstructing justice. Our members are demanding that Congress impeach Donald Trump to stop him from further destroying our democratic institutions before it's too late.

The American people are not ruled by a King. It’s time for our elected representatives to use their power to investigate Trump, hold him accountable, and remove him from office.” - Democracy for America Executive Director Charles Chamberlain

Democracy for America is a people-powered political action committee with 1 million members nationwide. Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $40 million and made more than 11.1 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 917 progressive candidates nationwide.
