Stacey Abrams Launches Campaign for Georgia Governor with Nationwide Grassroots Support
Stacey Abrams launches her campaign for Governor of Georgia today with the backing of progressive grassroots organization Democracy for America and its more than one million members nationwide. Two weeks ago, DFA began mobilizing its members to support Abrams if she decided to run, resulting in more than 3,000 people committed to doing their part to help her win from day one of her campaign.
“From California to Maine and all across the state of Georgia, thousands of our members are already committed to doing their part to help Stacey Abrams become Governor. They are thrilled to have in Stacey Abrams a fearless candidate with a bold progressive vision, and a track record of winning battles to make that vision a reality.”
“In the current political environment, progressives are especially hungry to support leaders like Stacey Abrams who will put the government in service of all people, rather than the most wealthy and powerful. With Stacey Abrams on the ballot, Georgians should get ready to see a level of involvement and engagement unlike anything they are used to in governor’s races of the past.” - Charles Chamberlain, Executive Director, Democracy for America
Below are comments from some of the DFA members who explained why they are excited to support Stacey when they pledged to support her if she ran:
“We need strong smart women that understand family problems and can represent the people well. I believe she can! I'm with Stacey.” - Donna M., Mitchell, GA
“She is one of the most concerned reps I have ever worked with in the state. She believes in people power and is not part of the "buddy system" that has run the state in the past and now. People need someone who will address their concerns and not be overlooked or left out of the big picture. Very intelligent, strong woman not afraid to step to the plate or as they say, "bring it on". - Janice C., Decatur, GA
“She is a conscientious representative that understands the real needs and aspirations of my community.” - Leeroy B., Decatur, GA
“She knows how to build power from the ground up.” - Harry K., Quitman, GA
“I personally saw her on the floor fighting for what's right in Georgia.” - Pansy T., Kennesaw, GA
Democracy for America is a people-powered political action committee with 1 million members nationwide. Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $40 million and made more than 11.1 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 916 progressive candidates nationwide. DFA has 32,379 members in Georgia. After the national progressive group endorsed Jon Ossoff for Congress in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District in March, its members contributed more than $55,000 to his campaign.
