I am Representative Jasmine Crockett and I’m running for Congress in TX-30. I am a civil rights and criminal defense attorney. As a freshman lawmaker, who filed more bills than any other freshman, forced the TCEQ to hold more public hearings in our district than ever before, and closed over one thousand constituent cases in my first year. I have been recognized, locally, statewide, and nationally for my efforts to oppose Republican voter suppression laws, including being named Freshman of the Year by the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, the Dallas Observer, and the Texas Legislative Black Caucus. I am a founding member and Vice Chair of the Texas House Progressive Caucus and focused on voting rights, criminal justice reform, abortion rights, environmental justice, fixing our power grid, healthcare and economic recovery during the pandemic during the 87th legislative session. I am a proud lead signer on an amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court urging them to uphold Roe v. Wade. I have consistently been ranked the most progressive voice in Texas by multiple news sources and named an outstanding and effective freshman by Texas Monthly. I graduated from Rhodes College with a BA in Business Administration, and earned my JD from the University of Houston Law Center. I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Now, I have been endorsed by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson to carry the torch and continue the work she started over 30 years ago.

I am running to amplify the people’s voice and take our fight to the next level. I’m running to safeguard and expand access to the ballot, protect abortion rights, fight for an economy that works for all of us, and a society where everyone has equal access to educational and economic opportunity. I am running because we are at a critical time in our nation’s trajectory, the clock is ticking on climate action, people are dying at unprecedented rates due to a once in a century pandemic, and the time is now to elect a fighter with a proven track record to this seat and not take a gamble with those providing lip service. I’m running because we need an organizing force in Congress who will mobilize and engage more people on the ground, bringing more accessibility to the process and accountability to the office – just as I have done in the Texas House. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has been a powerhouse and trailblazer in public office and has served our state and nation for the last 50 years, and she believes I am the person with the work ethic, integrity, and tenacity to be a strong voice for this district and carry the torch.

I’m the only candidate in this race with a strong track record of success and dedication to these issues. I was running in a very close and competitive runoff election for my state house seat in the midst of the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor protests in Dallas. However, that did not prevent me and my team from representing more than 600 peaceful protestors pro Bono, getting them out of jail, the charges dropped, and the arrests expunged. While serving in the Texas House, I was the only public defender on the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee and spent the majority of my time working on criminal justice reforms. I passed a bill for mandatory juvenile diversion programs to prevent 17 year old, first time offenders from being prosecuted as adults and being saddled with a record. We formed a wide and bipartisan coalition to push the issue of no-knock warrants, such as the one that killed Breonna Taylor, and countless Texans, including law enforcement. We worked closely with unlikely allies to make this bill a priority for our Republican Speaker, and the bill passed the House unanimously. I have a 100% pro-labor record, 100% pro-choice record, fought every abortion ban on the House floor, and filed multiple amicus briefs with the Supreme Court urging them to protect Roe v. Wade.
