Who am I?

Mike Levin was raised in South Orange County, where he attended public elementary and junior high schools. He spent his high school years in Los Angeles at Loyola High and then went to Stanford University, where he was honored to serve as student body president. After college, he served in the Coro Fellows Program and then attended Duke University School of Law. After law school, he served as Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Orange County and have worked as an attorney focused on environmental and energy regulatory compliance and government affairs.

Mike is a passionate believer in clean energy and has over a decade of experience in the industry, helping to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable power generation and transportation options. He has served for several years on the board of the Center for Sustainable Energy, based in San Diego, and co-founded Sustain OC in Orange County. For his work in clean energy, he was named to the OC METRO 40 under 40.

Since he was sworn into office this past January, he has been selected to serve on both the Veterans’ Affairs and Natural Resources Committees, as well as the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.

He lives in San Juan Capistrano with his wife, Chrissy, a graduate of the University of Arizona and Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and their two children, ages 6 and 4.

What am I fighting for?

Before being elected to Congress in November 2018, Mike was involved in a variety of local, state and federal political campaigns and community organizations for two decades. He ran as a strong progressive Democrat with a deep background in clean energy and environmental policy, and his work in Congress has helped to put him in the forefront of accelerating the transition towards more sustainable power generation and transportation options. He is running for re-election in 2020 to continue to fight for environmental policies, Medicare for All, affordable higher education, preventing gun violence, protecting Social Security, a woman’s right to choose, and a $15 federal minimum wage. At the same time, the country faces unprecedented challenges from the Executive Branch and Mike is completely dedicated to holding this administration accountable.

My DFA Values

In 2018, Mike ran a grassroots campaign funded by 188,000 individual contributions, and will continue to do so for as long as he serves in office. He believes that elected officials should represent the people and that’s why he will never accept corporate PAC money. He serves his constituents, not special interests. One of the first bills Mike cosponsored was the For the People Act, which would lessen the influence of big money in politics and expand voting rights. he also cosponsored the H.R. 4, which would protect the rights of voters in states with a history of voter discrimination.

He believes that discrimination, harassment, and violence on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation has no place in our society. He cosponsored H.R. 8 which would require background checks on all firearm purchases, preventing dangerous individuals from purchasing guns. He also cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would end pay discrimination on the basis of gender, which is even more pronounced for women of color.

Mike thinks that every working American should earn a living wage and have the ability to retire with dignity, which is why he’s a cosponsor of the Raise the Wage Act, along with two bills to protect and strengthen social security. No family should have to choose between paying medical bills and putting food on their table. That’s why he cosponsored the Medicare for All Act, and H.R. 1884 to protect individuals with pre-existing conditions.
