Vi Lyles is the daughter of Robert and Mary Taylor, who raised her and her five brothers in Columbia, South Carolina. Robert and Mary taught Vi to be a strong, independent thinker who stands up for herself and others, and strives to improve herself and her community.

Vi is running for mayor because she is proud of the work she has done for this city–the work she has championed surrounding affordable housing, transportation, more jobs, and safe, quality communities–but she knows there is still more to be done. She has served as this city’s mayor for 2 terms, and have served as its advocate for far longer.
