I was born in raised in Roanoke, VA. The youngest of three, I was the first person in my immediate family to attend a 4-year college. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Roanoke College and a Paralegal Certificate from Duke University. I have had many different careers over the years from secretary to quality assurance engineer. I am now an educator in a local public school.

First and foremost, I do not accept corporate PAC money for my campaign. I am dedicated to campaign finance reform and putting people before corporations. Working in an elementary school, I see firsthand what a decade of Republican leadership has done to working families, particularly Black and Brown families. I will fight to raise the minimum wage in North Carolina and expand Medicaid. I am an outspoken advocate for the removal of a confederate monument in my district and am the only candidate for this seat to say “Black Lives Matter” and reflect that statement in my actions and votes in my first term. When I was in office, I voted against mandatory cooperation with 287g, fought to have added protections for victims of domestic violence, and voted to uphold access to legal abortions. I firmly stand for progressive values and am not timid about expressing them.
