Baldwin Poll
Burlington, VT Today, Democracy for America (DFA), released
poll numbers showing Democratic Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin has surged to a
3 point lead over Republican candidate Tommy Thompsonamong likely voters in
Wisconsin. This poll, the second to show Baldwin leading since the August
Republican primary, proves momentum is on Baldwins side - with 90% of likely
voters now committed to their choice.
Meanwhile, Tommy Thompsonsfavorabilitynumbers have plummeted. Among
likely voters 53% have an unfavorable view of the former Republican Governor
- including 54% of Independents and even 29% of Republicans. President Barack Obama also maintains a
lead over GOP candidate Mitt Romney.
The polling represents asignificant step forward for Baldwin, a candidate
named to DFAs Dean Dozen in August. Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for
America said, This is fantastic news for the Baldwin campaign and comes
after a grueling month on the campaign trail. Over the past two years
weve grown to know the voters in Wisconsin as we tirelessly fought to stop
cuts against Wisconsins middle class. Tammys a class act and will be a strong
voice for the people and our support remains steadfast to help her win this
November." Polling was paid for by Democracy for America and was conducted by Public
Policy Polling on September 12th and 13th in a survey of
959 likely voters in Wisconsin.
Earlier this summer, Tammy Baldwin was named one of Democracy for America's
Dean Dozen. The Dean Dozen is DFA's highest tier of federal endorsement.
It is limited to 12 total candidates running for either US House or US Senate
and represents the races that DFA will expend the greatest amount of resources
on during the 2012 cycle.
