CA 36 Poll Numbers
Votersin CA 36th District Concerned with Paul Ryans Voucher Plan
Burlington, VT Today, Democracy for America (DFA), released poll
numbers showing that likely voters in Californias 36th Congressional District
overwhelmingly oppose Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryans plan to turn
Medicare into a voucher plan.
The plan laid out in Ryans proposed budget passed by the House of
Representatives this year, scraps Medicare as we know it and creates a voucher
program. Republican Mary Bono Mack,
voted for the budget to end Medicare. When
polled the week of August 7th-9th, likely voters in the 36th
Congressional District overwhelmingly oppose turning Medicare into a voucher
program. Only 16% of likely voters support Medicare vouchers. When asked if
they would support a candidate who advocated transitioning Medicare into a
voucher program, only 14% of likely voters said they would.
President Barack Obama maintains a narrow
lead over GOP candidate Mitt Romney with likely voters in Californias 36th
Congressional District.
Seven term Republican incumbent Rep. Mary Bono Mack is in trouble in the 36th
Congressional District as, Democratic
challenger Raul Ruiz has pulled into a statistical tie. Bono Mack leads Ruiz by 45% to 43%, but this
falls within the surveys 3.9% margin of error, making the lead
insignificant. As 53% of voters have not
yet heard enough about Ruiz to form an opinion of him, the 36th
looks like a prime opportunity for a Democratic pick up in the fall. Ruiz, who is a finalist for DFAs Dean Dozen
slate, is seen as a strong challenger to gain one more seat for Democrats this fall.
This polling was conducted August 7th and 8th and is
considered a strong indicator at how the 36th Congressional District will swing
83 days out from the election. Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America
said, This is the year that Democrats unseat Rep. Mary Bono Mack. When she voted to end Medicare and fell in
line with fellow Republicans, she voted against the best interest of her
district. Raul is not only a great man
with a great vision for California but hes an ER doctor who understands the
true needs of his community.
The polling was paid for by Democracy
for America and was conducted August 7th and 8th in a
survey of 630 likely voters in Californias 36th Congressional
District with the margin of error falling to 3.9%. The Dean Dozen is DFA's
highest tier of federal endorsement. It is limited to 12 total candidates
running for either US House or US Senate and represents the races that DFA will
expend the greatest amount of resources on during the 2012 cycle.
