Democracy for America backs Jim Harper for Congress in IN-1

Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Jim Harper for Congress in the open seat in Indiana’s firmly Democratic First Congressional District.

Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, Jim Harper has spent much of his professional career serving his community, from fighting to protect veterans seeking disability benefits for injuries they sustained during their service through the national non-profit he founded, to challenging Indiana’s continued use of voting machines without a voter-verified paper trail in the courts.

Electing Harper to this Democratic stronghold will ensure that voters in Indiana’s 1st have a proud progressive representing them in DC who is committed to fighting for Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, expanded voting rights, and robust criminal justice reform.<br>

Statement from DFA CEO Yvette Simpson on the grassroots progressive group’s endorsement of Harper:

“Democracy for America is excited to endorse Jim Harper in this critical open-seat contest because it’s more important than ever that, in deep blue, economically diverse districts like Indiana’s 1st, Democrats have elected leaders in Washington who are ready to stand up and fight for our shared progressive values.

“Jim Harper isn’t just looking to go to Congress with a “D” next to his name to vote the party line, he wants to serve his constituents as an unabashed champion for working families who is ready to fight for progressive priorities like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, expanded voting rights, and robust criminal justice reform.

“While the field of candidates running in this race is large, Jim Harper is the clear choice for Northwest Indiana voters who want a committed progressive leader representing them in Congress. All of us here at Democracy for America couldn’t be more honored to stand with him.” -- Yvette Simpson, CEO, Democracy for America
