Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Veronica Escobar in her race for U.S, Congress in Texas 16th congressional district.

Democracy for America has 79,226 members in Texas and more than one million members nationwide.

Chair Jim Dean on DFA’s endorsement of Veronica Escobar for Congress:

“As a former County Commissioner and El Paso County Judge, Veronica Escobar understands the dangers El Paso’s border community face with Donald Trump and his bigoted allies at the helm in Washington and she’s shown throughout her career to the progressive values needed to fearlessly beat back injustice.

“Democracy for America members are excited to support Veronica Escobar for Congress because we know the experience she has standing up for racial, gender, and economic justice and we’re certain she’ll be a critical ally in the fights for the populist progressive reforms we need to confront Donald Trump’s hate-fueled agenda.” -- Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America

Quote from Veronica Escobar on receiving DFA’s endorsement:

"I am honored and humbled by this endorsement and ready to work with the members of Democracy for America, for the people of El Paso and Americans across the country. As County Judge in El Paso, I worked hard to expand access to affordable healthcare for our community.  But even with Obamacare and efforts at the local level like ours, too many Americans still lack access to quality healthcare because they lack insurance or because the costs of care are too high. The result is devastating to families. I'm ready to work together to create a system of healthcare that provides affordable, quality care for all.” -- Veronica Escobar, Candidate for Congress (TX-16)

A third generation El Pasoan, Veronica Escobar has established herself as an educator, judge, and community activists ready to fight for the border community she loves.  As an El Paso County Judge, Escobar has fought corruption in local government and took bold stances in defense of the rights of women, working families, and immigrants.  In Congress, Escobar is committed to standing up to Donald Trump and his allies bigoted and hate-fueled agenda and doing what it takes to grow jobs and expand access to healthcare, transportation, and quality of life in El Paso.

Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $40 million and made more than 11.1 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 915 progressive candidates nationwide.
