DFA celebrates Ossoff’s huge 1st place win in GA-6 Special Election

Tonight, Democracy for America celebrated Democrat Jon Ossoff’s first place finish in the special election in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District.

Votes are still being counted, but whether Ossoff stays over 50% or delivers an exceptionally strong first place finish in a race to replace a Republican who won by 23 percentage points just five months ago, it’s a tremendous victory for the grassroots.

Statement from Democracy for America Chair Jim Dean about the big night in GA-06:

“The mere fact that we’re even talking about a competitive race in a congressional district Democrats haven’t held in over 40 years, let alone Jon Ossoff’s sound victory tonight, is a testament to the growing strength of a nationwide, grassroots movement that’s looking for leaders ready to stand up to  the Republicans empowering Donald Trump’s hate-fueled agenda.

“Republicans are being forced to sweat ruby red districts like this one because ordinary people in Georgia and communities across this country focused on resisting Donald Trump’s hate are making elections like tonight's nail biters one door knock, one phone call, and one $5 dollar contribution at a time.

“Jon Ossoff’s big win tonight is a tremendous victory for those grassroots, resistance leaders and we’re excited to see what else they can accomplish as they work to expand the electorate and bring even more people out to the polls in the weeks and months ahead.”  - Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
