Democracy for America endorses Maggie Toulouse Oliver for New Mexico Secretary of State
BURLINGTON, VT – This morning, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Maggie Toulouse Oliver in her bid to become New Mexico’s Secretary of State.
Democracy for America proudly supported Toulouse Oliver in her 2014 run for Secretary of State, including her in that election cycle’s “Dean Dozen” slate of joint endorsements with DFA founder Gov. Howard Dean.
Statement from Democracy for America's Chair Jim Dean on today's endorsement of Maggie Toulouse Oliver for New Mexico Secretary of State:
"If we’re going to tackle income inequality, beat back money’s outsized role in politics, and confront structural racism in our country, we need Secretaries of State like Maggie Toulouse Oliver who deeply believe that everyone's voice should be heard in our elections and are looking for ways to make it easier, not harder, for citizens to vote.
"With the rollback of the Voting Rights Act, and Republican-held state legislatures pushing voter suppression laws, we’re excited to support Maggie Toulouse Oliver in her race for New Mexico Secretary of State because we know she’ll be the reliable, trustworthy ally New Mexicans need in the fight against voter suppression.” -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
Statement from Maggie Toulouse Oliver on receiving DFA’s endorsement:
“It is an honor to earn the endorsement of Democracy for America. This year's secretary of state's race is more than a campaign, it's a New Mexico movement for reform. We need to ensure accountability, transparency and public trust in the office. I am proud to have the grassroots support of so many New Mexicans, and now Democracy for America's one-million members standing with me." -- Maggie Toulouse Oliver, Candidate, New Mexico Secretary of State
DFA’s endorsement of Toulouse Oliver brings with it a one-million member-strong grassroots army that has knocked hundreds of thousands of doors, made over 11.1 million phone calls, and raised and contributed more than $36.6 million to help elect 843 progressive candidates nationwide since 2004.
Democracy for America (DFA) is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC with more than 26,054 members in New Mexico and one million members nationwide committed to taking on income inequality, money in politics, and structural racism.
