Democracy for America Endorses Rep. Ruben Gallego for Re-Election

Democracy for America today endorsed Rep. Ruben Gallego in his re-election campaign to continue representing Arizona’s 7th Congressional District. Rep. Gallego is the first incumbent house member endorsed by the million member progressive grassroots PAC this election cycle.

Democracy for America Chair Jim Dean on the endorsement:

“In the early days following Donald Trump’s election, a lot of Democrats hemmed and hawed about working with him. Ruben Gallego was not one of those people - he instead spoke with bold clarity from the House floor about the threat Trump poses to our country, and has been leading efforts against his hateful agenda ever since.”

“We need more progressives like Ruben Gallego who are not afraid of taking a stand on their principles, especially when they are doing so alone. Progressives lawmakers have a special responsibility for leadership that sometimes involves dragging their colleagues out of the establishment way of thinking that can envelope them in Washington. Our members nationwide are hungry for leadership like Ruben’s, and we are proud to stand with him.” - Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America

Rep. Gallego on the endorsement:

“DFA is fighting Trump at every turn, and I couldn't be prouder to stand with them. We need bold progressives with the toughness to resist and the leadership to map a new course forward if we're going to take back this country. DFA is fostering that every day and I'll be right there with them for as long as it takes.” - Rep. Ruben Gallego

Rep. Ruben Gallego was elected to Congress in 2014 after he serving in the Arizona House of Representatives and in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Iraq. He has also led efforts to recall former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was notorious for his racist policies targeting immigrants.

Democracy for America is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC committed to taking on income inequality, money in politics, and structural racism. Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $40 million and made more than 11.1 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 917 progressive candidates nationwide.
