Democracy for America endorses Yvonne Lewis Holley for Lt. Governor in North Carolina
Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Yvonne Lewis Holley for Lieutenant Governor in North Carolina.
Holley’s endorsement is DFA’s first endorsement in a race for Lieutenant Governor in the 2020 election cycle and one of the grassroots organization’s key endorsements in the critical swing state of North Carolina ahead of November’s election.
A Raleigh native and the member of one of the first desegregated classes at Wake County Public School’s Enloe High School, Yvonne Lewis Holley has spent her life serving North Carolinians as a state employee, the Director of Minority Affairs for WRAL-TV, and, more recently, a four-term member of the North Carolina State House. In the State Capitol, Holley has been an outsized voice in fights for affordable housing and a living wage and against food insecurity.
Statement from DFA CEO Yvette Simpson on the group’s endorsements of Holley for Lieutenant Governor in North Carolina:
“Over four terms in State House, Yvonne Lewis Holley has fought to improve housing, healthcare, and education for all North Carolinians, and Democracy for America is thrilled to endorse her because we know as Lieutenant Governor she’ll be able to do even more.
“In the richest country in the world, no American should struggle to access affordable housing, healthy food, workforce training, or reliable transportation. The trailblazing Affordable Living Initiative that Yvonne has put at the very center of her campaign moves us toward that ideal and provides the kind of bold, progressive plan we need to see replicated all across the country.
“In this race and across her career in public life, Yvonne Lewis Holley has put the needs of working families first and put forward the kind of vision necessary to ensure that everyone can thrive in the Tar Heel State. We’re honored to stand with Yvonne Lewis Holley in her fight to become North Carolina’s next Lieutenant Governor and deliver on the inspiring people-focused, progressive agenda that’s powering her campaign.” -- Yvette Simpson, CEO, Democracy for America
Statement from Yvonne Lewis Holley on receiving DFA’s 2020 endorsement:
“It’s an honor to receive the endorsement from Democracy For America. With the support and power of the organization, North Carolina will elect me as the first African American woman to the Office of Lieutenant Governor. Together, we’ll fight for our many shared values, break the glass ceiling of history, and move our country and North Carolina forward." -- NC Rep. Yvonne Lewis Holley
DFA has 39,123 members in North Carolina and more than one million members nationwide.
