Democracy for America joins Bernie Sanders’s “applause” of Clinton’s New College Compact
Today, Hillary Clinton launched an enhancement of her New College Compact which Bernie Sanders called a "very bold initiative" that would "revolutionize the funding of higher education in America" and borrowed important aspects of Sanders's own plans for free college tuition.
Here's Democracy for America's Charles Chamberlain on Clinton's new higher education plan:
"The New College Compact being released today is a significant move from Hillary Clinton that deserves to be applauded, along with over 12 million Americans behind Bernie Sanders who helped make it happen.
"Over the last two years, Democrats have gone from a party fighting for piecemeal student loan reform to a party advancing a big, bold plan for debt-free higher education that now includes tuition-free access to public colleges and universities for 83% of all American families.
"The political revolution he helped inspire didn't bring the Democratic Party to this remarkably bold vision for higher education policy alone, but there's no doubt that the strong campaign Bernie Sanders waged with the support of millions has helped cement that winning populist progressive vision into the Democratic fight against Donald Trump." -- Charles Chamberlain, Executive Director, Democracy for America
Democracy for America has been a strong supporter of Bernie Sanders since the one-million-member progressive PAC's endorsement of the Senator's campaign in 2015. Over the course of the primary, DFA members have contributed more than $1.8 million to Sanders's presidential campaign.
