DFA: Arturo Carmona’s Mistreatment of Women Disqualifies Him for Congress

Recently, multiple women within the progressive movement, including Fmr. NV State Rep. Lucy Flores and former Bernie Sanders presidential campaign staff person Masha Mendieta, have publicly raised serious concerns about CA-34 candidate Arturo Carmona’s treatment of women.

In light of these public accounts, Democracy for America’s (DFA) Executive Director, Charles Chamberlain, made the following statement regarding Carmona and the race for CA-34 Congressional District:

“At Democracy for America, we believe women. Unacceptable, oppressive behavior at work thrives in the shadows. Too often, good people rationalize, ignore, or permit this kind of behavior to protect the campaign or the accused. When women step forward to shine a light on the misogyny they experience, we all have a responsibility to take it seriously and act accordingly.

“The multiple public accounts of congressional candidate Arturo Carmona’s mistreatment of women disqualifies him for Congress and must be exposed to the people of California’s 34th Congressional District before they vote on Tuesday.” -- Charles Chamberlain, Executive Director, Democracy for America

DFA has endorsed Wendy Carrillo in California’s 34th Congressional District. During the 2016 Presidential Primary, DFA was a major supporter of Bernie Sanders and DFA members contributed more than $1.88 million to his historic campaign.
