DFA backs Marcus Ferrell for Arizona State House

Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Marcus Ferrell in his competitive primary for Arizona Legislative District 24.

DFA is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC with 38,965 members in Arizona and more than one million members nationwide. The grassroots progressive organization’s endorsement of Ferrell is a continuation of its commitment to delivering inclusive populist change to Arizona in 2018.  So far this election cycle, DFA had already endorsed David Garcia for Governor, January Contreras for Attorney General, Mary Matiella for U.S. House District 2, and Ruben Gallego for reelection in U.S. House District 7.

DFA’s Electoral Campaign Manager Mondale Robinson on DFA’s decision to back Ferrell for the Arizona House:

“Marcus Ferrell will not only be an exceptional representative for the people of Arizona’s 24th Legislative District, he’ll be a forceful champion in the State House for inclusive populist priorities for all Arizonans. Marcus knows how to both fight for what he believes in and bring together powerful coalitions of surprising allies to deliver for working families.  DFA members in Arizona and across the country are incredibly excited to stand with Marcus in his race for State House, and we can’t wait to see the work we can do together for Arizona families when he gets there." -- Mondale Robinson, Electoral Campaign Manager, Democracy for America

Marcus Ferrell on receiving DFA’s support in his race to represent Arizona Legislative District 24:

“Having the endorsement of Democracy for America is an honor and privilege for our campaign because of its historic presence in the progressive movement.  As African-American Outreach Director for Bernie Sanders, when DFA endorsed our campaign it provided a major boost to his efforts, and I believe it will do the same for ours. Time and again, DFA has ended up on the right side of history by demonstrating a nuanced understanding of the role race and class plays in the issues and candidates they support.  I will do the work for people of my district and live up to the progressive values DFA represents in the State House."  -- Marcus Ferrell, candidate for AZ Legislative District 24

Marcus Ferrell is a Navy veteran, community organizer, and long-time champion of inclusive populist candidates for office up-and-down the ballot.  Recently, Ferrell served as the National African-American Outreach Director for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and Deputy Campaign Manager for Stacey Abrams’ gubernatorial campaign before deciding to run for state representative.  As Arizona Legislative District 24’s next state representative, Ferrell is committed to fighting to secure statewide universal healthcare, free public college and trade school education for high school graduates, and a livable wage for all Arizonan workers.

Since its 2004 founding, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $40 million and made more than 11.1 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect 919 progressive candidates nationwide.
