DFA celebrates grassroots progressive surge in Kansas’ 4th Congressional District
Tonight, Democracy for America (DFA) celebrated the amazing grassroots progressive surge we saw in Kansas 4th Congressional district.
Statement from Democracy for America’s Chair Jim Dean on James Thompson stunningly strong race in the KS-4:
“The amazing grassroots progressive surge we saw emerge behind Democrat James Thompson in a deep red Kansas congressional district that Republicans won by 31 points five months ago is nothing short of jaw-dropping.
"To fellow grassroots progressives leading the resistance in the streets, at townhalls, and at the doors, these results are proof that our movement can have a profound impact at the ballot box in the months ahead. If we can make Republicans go into full-on freakout mode in a ruby red Kansas congressional district now, we have the power to rip the gavel out of Paul Ryan’s hands in November 2018.
"To the Washington Democratic insiders who wrote this race off before it began, it’s time to wake up and realize that the grassroots expects this resistance effort to be waged unflinchingly in every single county and every single state across the country. - DFA endorsed Thompson in the KS-04 special election in March.
- Over the course of the race, DFA members and Thompson volunteers made 287,191 using the DFA Dialer volunteer phone banking tool -- including 127,165 on election day alone.
- DFA members also raised and contributed more than $13,000 in support of Thompson’s race.
- DFA has 11,627 members in Kansas and more than one million members nationwide.
