DFA celebrates NARAL Pro-Choice America on its 50th Anniversary

Today, long-time Democracy for America ally NARAL Pro-Choice America celebrates the 50th anniversary of its fight to protect and expand reproductive freedom throughout our country.

This afternoon, DFA CEO Yvette Simpson released the following statement celebrating NARAL’s historic 50th anniversary:

"For 50 years, NARAL has not only been a steadfast champion for abortion rights, they've also been a reliable ally in the progressive movement's broader fight for a more racially, socially, and economically just America.

“Over our own 15-year history, Democracy for America has been honored to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with NARAL time after time because we know the fearlessness, visionary grit, and determination NARAL will bring to any fight we take on with them.

“A lot of people are jaded,” desperate to see Washington “actually start to move some stuff,” said Yvette Simpson, chief executive of the progressive political action committee Democracy for America.

Ever since Congress passed Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill earlier this year, Simpson said, “we’re flatlined. There’s no real significant change that we can see for anything else on the horizon.”

If Democrats can’t break the logjam, she said, the party will pay for it in 2022. “I think it hurts the energy. I think it hurts the momentum.”
