DFA celebrates State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s 2020 reelection primary victory in Cook County, IL
Tonight, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx won the hotly contested Democratic Primary in her 2020 reelection bid.
Democracy for America was a strong supporter of Foxx during her 2016 election and backed her once again for reelection this year.
DFA CEO Yvette Simpson on Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx’s 2020 primary victory:
“Back in 2016, Democracy for America proudly endorsed Kim Foxx for her first election for Cook County State's Attorney because we knew she’d be an unbridled champion for criminal justice reform who was willing to take on the status quo and right historic inequities.
“State’s Attorney Foxx won a hard-fought victory tonight because of her transformative work implementing bond and cannabis reform, vacating wrongful convictions, and focusing her office’s resources on keeping communities safe from violent crime.
“We were honored to stand with State’s Attorney Kim Fox in 2016 and we were excited to fight alongside her once again in this primary.
“At the same time, this victory is also about so much more than a single race for State’s Attorney. Social and economic progress is impossible without a justice system that finally begins living up to our country’s promise of equality under the law.
“The reelection victory of a bold reformer like State’s Attorney Foxx, not only ensures that the progress our movement is making in places like Cook County can continue to march forward, it adds a boost of momentum behind our efforts to continue the fight for criminal justice reform all across the country.” -- Yvette Simpson, Chief Executive Officer, Democracy for America
