DFA hails huge win for Manka Dhingra in WA special election to help flip WA State Senate

Tonight, DFA-endorsed candidate Manka Dhingra claimed a huge victory in a Washington state special election that has helped flip control of the State Senate and control of all three branches of state government to Democrats.

Democracy for America members invested big in Manka’s race running an $150,000 independent expenditure (IE) effort to support her campaign, featuring a multi-pass canvass program, online ads, direct mail, paid phone calls, and text messaging tightly targeting registered voters who voted for the first time in 2016 or have voted sporadically in previous elections.

Democracy for America’s Chair Jim Dean on Manka Dhingra’s game-changing victory in Washington State:

“Manka Dhingra’s victory tonight is a tremendous win for Eastside voters, the entire state of Washington, and progressive voters all across the country who understand the stakes of state elections like this one.

“With Manka Dhingra in the State Senate, Washingtonians not only will now have another strong, progressive voice in Olympia, they will have flipped control of a legislative chamber and won a state government united in its commitment to standing up to Donald Trump’s attacks on our healthcare, environment, education system, and immigrant communities.

“We were proud to pour everything we could into Manka’s race and we cannot wait to see how her vote in the State Senate helps Washington continue building on its legacy of national progressive leadership.” -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
