DFA launches $150,000 campaign backing Manka Dhingra in Washington State Senate special election
Today, Democracy for America (DFA) launched the first phase of an $150,000 independent expenditure campaign to get-out-the-vote for Democrat Manka Dhingra in a critical 2017 special election (LD-45) that could determine control of the Washington State Senate.
The comprehensive IE campaign will feature a multi-pass canvas program, direct mail, phone calls, text messages, and paid media targeting registered voters in Washington’s 45th Legislative District who voted for the first time in 2016 or have voted sporadically in previous elections.
In a state legislative district that Donald Trump lost in 2016 by a massive 37 points, DFA’s IE program aims to help voters see that this fall’s special election is a critical opportunity to make sure their State Senate can stand with Washington’s Governor and State Assembly as fully united front against Trump’s bigoted and hate-fueled agenda.

DFA’s multi-pass canvas program started knocking its very first doors this week and will continue through election day, while the other components of the program (e.g. direct mail, calls, text and paid media) will hit the ground in the weeks ahead.
Democracy for America is working with Fieldworks on its canvass program; Solidarity Strategies on mail, phone calls, texts and media buying; and Gum Spirits Productions on paid media production. DFA has also worked closely on the conception, design, and execution of this IE campaign with the volunteer leaders of the recently formed State Government Citizens’ Campaign (SGCC) political action committee.
DFA, which endorsed Manka Dhingra in May, is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC with 74,992 members in the state of Washington and one million members nationwide committed to taking on structural racism, income inequality, and money in politics.
