DFA on Rahm’s Reelection Pass: “Good riddance to bad rubbish”

This morning, in a surprise decision, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that he would not run for a third term.

Democracy for America (DFA) strongly backed Jesus "Chuy" Garcia in his 2015 race for Mayor, which forced Emanuel into Chicago's first mayoral runoff.

DFA has more one million members nationwide, including 18,529 members in the Chicago, and works closely with a number of affiliated grassroots groups in and around the city.

Democracy for America's Chair Jim Dean on Rahm Emanuel's decision not to run for reelection:

"Good riddance to bad rubbish.

"While it's disappointing that Chicagoans won't have the chance to give Rahm Emanuel the massive defeat at the polls he deserves for his long record of sheltering injustice, perpetuating inequity, and failing to keep Chicago safe, this is a great day for the Windy City.

"It won't be easy to fix Rahm's mess, but we look forward to seeing what inclusive populist champions emerge in the coming mayoral race and supporting their commitment to fighting for a more just and equitable city." -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
