DFA RESPONSE: With DACA recision, Trump “is governing like a white supremacist”

Donald Trump's administration just launched its plans to rescind Deferred Action for Child Arrival (DACA) protections for over 800,000 hardworking young people who came to the United States as children.

Here's Democracy for America's response to Trump's disgusting decision to repeal DACA:

"Donald Trump may think he can hide behind legalistic moralizing and briefly kicking the fate of DACA to Congress, but he can't conceal his pursuit of an amoral, bigoted agenda, no matter how cowardly he does it.

"Two weeks ago, we saw Donald Trump side with Nazis after the horrors of Charlottesville and pardon a former Arizona sheriff who ran a self-described segregated “concentration camp” for undocumented immigrants. Today, the Trump administration begins its efforts to end DACA and destroy the lives of 800,000 hardworking young people who were brought to this country as children.  Simply put, Donald Trump is governing like a white supremacist.

"To those who spent the last week publicly wringing their hands about the President's impending destruction of DACA, especially those in Congress, it's time to put up or shut up.  Are you going to stand with the white supremacist in the White House who attacks young, primarily black and brown people who've done nothing wrong?  Or are you going to stand with the overwhelming majority of Americans who support the DACA program and take action to defend it?

"DFA stands in solidarity with the Dreamers and all immigrants and refugees, all loved and valued parts of our community, targeted by the Trump administration. We will not stand by quietly while the President and his party tear apart our families, target our friends, and destroy our communities.  We expect our elected leaders to join us in fighting back against this attack on DACA and clearly respond with action to the white supremacist governance streaming out of the White House.  With the lives of hundreds of thousands on the line, pointed tweets and artful press statements with empty platitudes and words of concern aren’t enough.  -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
