Following Kennedy retirement, DFA pushes Senate Dems to mercilessly fight Trump’s SCOTUS nomination

This afternoon, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court, potentially handing Donald Trump another opportunity to nominate a right-wing zealot.

Democracy for America issued the following public statement to U.S. Senate Democrats following Justice Kennedy's resignation:

"At the opening of one of the most important fights for a U.S. Supreme Court seat in a generation, we want to make one thing very clear:

"Voters all across the is country expect Senate Democrats to do everything in their power to reject whatever anti-choice, pro-corporate, enabler of bigotry and hate Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell attempt to force onto the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Kennedy.

"Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans didn't spend a single moment worrying about waging an unprecedented, year-long war of all-out partisan obstruction against President Obama's nomination of a milquetoast moderate to the Court. Senate Democrats' opposition to whatever neo-fascist, right-wing ideologue the Federalist Society tells Trump to push through before the midterms deserves even less concern.

"Senate Republicans deserve precisely the same level of 'assistance' they offered President Obama and Senate Democrats after Justice Scalia's death. If Senate Democrats deliver that kind of unwavering fight, they can rest assured knowing that the voters and activists who believe in justice and freedom will have their back every step of the way." -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
