With 40,000 Members in Ohio, DFA will work to Get Out the Vote to Reject Kasichs War on Working Families Burlington, VT On October 5th Democracy for America launched its No on 2 campaign in Ohio with the goal of reaching 75,000 voters to defeat the job-killing Issue 2 on November 8th. - Modeled after our successful paid canvasses in the Wisconsin Recall fights, DFA will hire a total of 15 local staff to identify voters and get out the vote in three critical districts in Ohio. - DFA will place two additional HQ staff on the ground to run Emergency Organizing Meetings to mobilize our existing 40,000 members in Ohio to defeat Issue 2 through volunteer canvassing, phone banks, and fundraising. - Working with We Are Ohio, staff on the ground will be identifying an additional 35,000 volunteers to plug into campaign activities with a focus on neighbor to neighbor contact and maximizing the use of social networks to get out the vote.Gov. Kasich started a war against working families in Ohio, said Jim Dean, Chair of DFA. Ohio voters will reject him and his right-wing Republican agenda at the polls on November 8.
More than one million Ohio voters signed a petition to bring Issue 2 to the ballot because the bill passed by the state legislature, SB 5, unfairly limits the bargaining rights of public workers in the state. The state budget should not be balanced on the backs of working families, and this bill will only reduce the number of teachers, nurses, and firefighters in the state. Ohioans need more jobs, not less help from critical public workers.
