Post Dem Win in WI Release

Democracy for America Wraps Up First Phase of Unprecedented Recall Campaign

Burlington, VT - Today with the clear victories of Jim Holperin and Robert Wirch, Republicans strike out in their efforts to recall Democrats who stood up for Wisconsinites against Scott Walkers extreme budget.

"Wisconsin voters got their say and the message is clear: Republicans went too far, and Democrats are working for us. This is not an end, it is just the beginning. We will continue to fight every day to define for voters who is on their side and who is in office only to advance the interests of millionaires and corporations," said Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America.

With this election Democracy for America concludes this phase of the campaign to recall Wisconsin Republican state senators who voted to cut education and health care in order to give corporations huge tax breaks. The recall effort that began in March of 2011 was the largest state based campaign that DFA has embarked upon: DFA and Allies Run Unprecedented Grassroots Campaign

With partners DFA spent $2.2 million dollars in WI for our three pronged strategy to be on the air, on the ground, and on the phones.

TV ads and the volunteer driven Call Out the Vote program were run jointly with the PCCC.

DFA and PCCC volunteers made 382,623 calls and contacted more than 101,663 voters.

Democracy for America ran three canvass offices with more than 108 canvassers in 3 key districts to recall Sheila Harsdorf (SD 10), Alberta Darling (SD 08), and Dan Kapanke (SD 32). DFA canvassers knocked on more than 100,000 doors in Wisconsin in six weeks.

DFA has 25,000 members in Wisconsin and more than 2,000 of them personally volunteered.

TV Ads Gave Voice to Wisconsin Working Families:

Our TV ads feature real stories from Wisconsinites to give them a voice in this election -- and to fight back against the unlimited cash coffers of the right-wing propaganda machine.

The contributions for our TV ads were given primarily in $5 - $25 increments from members around the country who fervently supported the fight in Wisconsin.
