STATEMENT: DFA on “cowardly” Dems who opposed background checks
Moments ago, the U.S. Senate rejected the Manchin-Toomey amendment failing to expand background checks on all gun purchases.
Here's Democracy for America's (DFA) response to the Senate's failure to lead:
"Democrats who were too cowardly to get on the right side of a 90-10 issue like universal background checks better believe that the progressives will remember their spinlessness on gun violence prevention come reelection time. The over 1 million members of Democracy for America nationwide work to elect progressive fighters, not U.S. Senators who can be cowed by the right-wing fringe and gun industry lobbyists like the NRA." -- Neil Sroka, Communications Director, Democracy for America
Details about Democracy for America & the fight for comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation:
- Nearly 83,000 individuals have signed DFA's petition supporting an Assault Weapons Ban.
- DFA placed its "John Deserves a Vote" ad on the Sunday shows in DC following the President's State of the Union push against gun violence.
- DFA members have made 1000s of calls to their Senators to support gun violence prevention legislation in the four months since Newtown.
- Founded by Gov. Howard Dean in 2004, DFA has over 1 million members nationwide.
