VICTORY: DFA celebrates Ed “Green New Dealmaker” Markey’s return to the U.S. Senate

Sen. Ed Markey just cruised to reelection for his Massachusetts Senate seat, which was considered to be safely Democratic following his hotly contested primary battle with Rep. Joe Kennedy III.

Democracy for America jumped in to back Markey, one of the Senate’s most consistently progressive members, in the lead up to the primary election and celebrated his wide margin of victory as a capstone for transformative progressive wins this cycle.

DFA Chair Charles Chamberlain on Ed Markey’s reelection triumph:

“The Green New Dealmaker is officially headed back to the U.S Senate and we couldn’t be more excited.

“Senator Ed Markey has spent the last four decades of his life fighting for America’s working families and progressive values in Washington, and his landslide reelection victory is a testament to his efficacy as a leader.

“Markey, one of the most progressive most reliable Senate allies, fended off a well-known and well-funded challenger earlier this year in a primary that piqued national interest and ultimately proved that MA voters know the real thing when they see them. Most importantly, Senator Markey proved that progressive leaders aren’t defined by the historic last names they might have been born with, but by the people they fight for, the bold stands they take, and the battles they wage.

“Democracy for America was honored to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Sen. Markey in his reelection campaign, and we look forward to fighting alongside him for our shared progressive values for years to come.” -- Charles Chamberlain, Chair, Democracy for America
