VICTORY: DFA cheers Ilhan Omar’s success in Minnesota’s 5th U.S. House primary
Ilhan Omar just won her primary in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. Democracy for America endorsed Omar shortly after she entered the race in June 2018.
Statement from Democracy for America Chair Jim Dean on Ilhan Omar's big win in the race for Congress in Minnesota's 5th:
"Ilhan Omar's primary win tonight is a huge victory for working families in Minnesota's 5th and everyone who knows that Congress could use a few more history-making trailblazers ready to fight for bold, inclusive populist priorities like Medicare for All and robust criminal justice reform.
"Along with Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar is now poised to make history as one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, but, after she's elected this November, she's set to stand alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pramila Jayapal, and other key progressive women of color as some of the strongest champions for racial and social justice we have in the House.
