VICTORY: DFA excited by Kevin de León top-two finish in California U.S. Senate primary

This morning, the Associated Press declared Kevin de León the winner of one of the top two spots on November's general election ballot in the race for U.S. Senate in California.

Democracy for America (DFA) was a strong, early supporter of de León's campaign for U.S. Senate after endorsing him on the day he entered the race in October 2017.

DFA Chair Jim Dean on Kevin de León winning a ticket to the general election for U.S. Senate in California:

"With his top-two finish in the primary, Kevin de León overcame moneyed interests and a political establishment dead set on destroying his campaign before it even began, ensuring that Californians have a bonafide champion for their progressive values on the ballot for U.S. Senate this November.

"For generations, California has been a national leader in the fight for social, racial, and economic justice, which is why Californians deserve a champion in the U.S. Senate committed to fighting for bold progressive ideas like Medicare for All, not someone who has to be challenged in a primary to start aligning with their progressive values.

"From his work as a young community organizer battling the anti-immigrant Proposition 187 to his leadership in the push for a bold single-payer healthcare plan in the California State Senate, Kevin de León has spent his life fighting for justice for Californians. As California's next U.S. Senator, Kevin de León is prepared to confront Donald Trump's hate-fueled agenda and help Democrats put forward a bold, inclusive populist vision for the country in the years ahead.

"That's why we were excited to endorse Kevin de León's campaign on the day he entered the race last October, why we look forward to fighting alongside him until November, and why we can't wait to help him make history as the first Latino to represent California in the U.S. Senate." -- Jim Dean, Chair Democracy for America
