VICTORY: DFA hails Rashida Tlaib’s history-making congressional primary win in Michigan’s 13th

Early this morning, Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) won a hard-fought primary in a critical Democratic stronghold in Michigan previously represented by Congressman John Conyers.

Statement from Democracy for America Chair Jim Dean on Rashida Tlaib's victory in Michigan's 13th Congressional District:

"Rashida Tlaib's win today is a huge victory for Detroiters, the progressive movement, and anyone who believes we need more fearless champions for economic and social justice in Congress.

"Throughout her career, Rashida Tlaib has regularly taken on millionaires, billionaires, and corporate interests to deliver for Detroit working families and fight for racial and economic justice, and we know we'll see nothing less from her once she gets to Washington.

"With her victory, Rashida Tlaib is not only set to make history as the first Muslim woman to win a seat in Congress, she's poised to be a key organizer on Capitol Hill in the fight for critical inclusive populist reforms like Medicare for All, tuition-free college, and a $15 minimum wage. Democracy for America members were honored to fight alongside Rashida Tlaib in this race, and we look forward to continuing that work through November and beyond." -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
