VICTORY: DFA says Pressley win in MA-7 reflects Democrats’ “inclusive populist transformation”

Ayanna Pressley just won one of the most shocking Democratic primary upsets of the year, unseating Democratic Congressman Mike Capuano in Massachusetts' 7th Congressional District.

Democracy for America endorsed Pressley in her primary fight in July.

Statement from Democracy for America Chair Jim Dean on Ayanna Pressley's stunning primary win in Massachusetts' 7th:

"Ayanna Pressley's remarkable victory tonight is a testament to the strength of the grassroots movement she built, and an important reflection of the generational, multiracial inclusive populist transformation that's happening in the Democratic Party right now all across the country.

"A fearless fighter for Boston's Black, brown, and white working families, Ayanna Pressley will be a champion for progressive priorities like Medicare for All and criminal justice reform in Congress. She'll make history as the first Black woman to represent Massachusetts in House, but she'll also bring a range of life experiences -- as a sexual assault survivor and the daughter of an incarcerated parent -- that are desperately needed in our halls of power.

"With so much at stake in the era of Trump, tonight's results make clear what Ayanna Pressley knew when she boldly launched her campaign against a ten-term incumbent: Change in the country and Congress can't wait. We were honored to stand with Ayanna Pressley in her gutsy, history-making primary campaign, and we look forward to fighting alongside her as she continues working to ensure the voices of all Bay Staters are represented in Washington." -- Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America
