DFA backs Kara Eastman in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District rematch

Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Kara Eastman in her rematch campaign against incumbent Rep. Don Bacon in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District.

Democracy for America was a strong supporter of Eastman during her 2018 race when she won an upset victory over former Rep. Brad Ashford in the primary and ran an extremely tight race against Rep. Bacon in the General.

With this endorsement, Eastman joins a slate of five other battle-tested, progressive candidates who expanded the electorate and nearly unseated Republican incumbents in 2018 including AmmarCampa-Najjar (CA-50), Dana Balter (NY-24), Adrienne Bell (TX-14), Gina Ortiz-Jones (TX-23), and J.D. Scholten (IA-4).

Statement from DFA CEO Yvette Simpson on the grassroots progressive group’s endorsement of Eastman:

“In 2018, Kara Eastman ran on a bold, inclusive populist agenda and, despite the millions of right-wing special interest dollars that were spent against her, she fell less than a couple of points shy of beating her incumbent Republican opponent.

“We were honored to support Kara in 2018 and we’re even more excited to stand with her again in 2020 because we know that when she gets to Washington she’ll fight for a healthcare system that puts people before profits, a Green New Deal that creates jobs and halts catastrophic climate change, and an economy that puts Nebraska’s working families first.

“Kara understands the stakes in this election and how to bring together the diverse communities that call Nebraska’s second district home -- and we know she’ll never back down from a fight. Democracy for America is thrilled to endorse Kara Eastman for Congress again in 2020 and we look forward to fighting alongside her from now through November.” -- Yvette Simpson, CEO, Democracy for America

Statement from Kara Eastman on receiving DFA’s 2020 endorsement:

“I am inspired and excited to be endorsed by Democracy for America. I look forward to joining the fight for inclusive populism here in Nebraska’s Second District and in Washington. Together, we can lead the election of progressive majorities and the rejection of right-wing extremism.” -- Kara Eastman

DFA has 2,754 members in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District, 6,616 in the state of Nebraska, and more than one million members nationwide.
