DFA launches $200,000 campaign to expand Latino support for Deborah Ross’ U.S. Senate race
Initial phase features bilingual TV, radio, digital media buys, persuasion calls to increase turnout of key voters in tight Senate race
Today, Democracy for America (DFA) launched the initial phase of an expected $200,000 campaign to increase support for North Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Deborah Ross among Spanish and English-speaking Latino voters, a critical and growing voting block in the Tar Heel State.
The comprehensive independent expenditure campaign will feature TV, radio, online, and pre-roll video ads in both English and Spanish, as well as bilingual persuasion calls targeting all Latino voters who have voted in any of the last three previous elections.
The ads, which argue that Ross is the fighter Latino’s need to stand up to bullies like Donald Trump, are believed to some of the very first to deploy Trump’s anti-Latino comments in a Spanish-language ad in support of a U.S. Senate candidate.

According to a 2013 Pew Hispanic Trends report, North Carolina has the fastest growing Latino population among the nation’s key “swing” states. DFA’s tightly-targeted, six-figure campaign in the North Carolina Senate race is rooted in the belief that high turnout among every segment of the Rising American Electorate in every state is essential to Democratic success in 2016.
Also, despite recent public polling indicating that Deborah Ross is running one of Democrats' closest U.S. Senate races, data collected by OpenSecrets suggests her campaign has received no disclosed national support from official Democratic Party committees and little from other national groups.
Democracy for America worked with Solidarity Strategies, the nation’s largest Latino-owned and operated political consulting firm, and 76 Words on the campaign and ad production.
DFA, which endorsed Deborah Ross in March, is a member-driven, people-powered progressive PAC with more than 41,000 members in the state of North Carolina and one million members nationwide committed to taking on income inequality, money in politics, and structural racism.
