Democracy for America endorses Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate in Idaho

Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate in Idaho. Jordan is the Democratic nominee opposing Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Risch in November.

DFA proudly supported Jordan in her race for governor in 2018, when she became the first woman nominated for Governor by a major party in Idaho and the first Native American woman nominated for Governor in U.S. history. When elected, Jordan will become the first Native American woman elected to the U.S. Senate.

Statement from DFA CEO Charles Chamberlain on the grassroots progressive group’s endorsement of Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate in Idaho:

“When she gets to the U.S. Senate, Paulette Jordan will be a fearless voice for progress, a relentless advocate for the people of Idaho, and a history-making trailblazer for Native American women.

“Democracy for America was proud to support Paulette Jordan in 2018 when she defied the naysayers and earned more votes from Idahoans than any Democrat has received for Governor in the state’s history. DFA members are even more excited to endorse Paulette this year because we know what her steadfast progressive values, her unwavering commitment to the people of Idaho, and crucial life experience as a Native American woman will bring to the halls of the U.S. Senate.

“Ready to fight for a transformative approach to healthcare that promotes access as a human right like Medicare for All and justice for every American who calls our country home, Paulette Jordan is running for U.S. Senate to put people first -- not corporate lobbyists or DC insiders. DFA was honored to stand with Paulette in 2018, we’re excited to fight alongside her today, and we can’t wait to work with her in Washington as she gets busy delivering for Idahoans.” -- Charles Chamberlain, Chair, Democracy for America

Statement from Paulette Jordan on receiving DFA’s endorsement in his race for U.S. Senate:

“It is with great honor that I thank Democracy for America for supporting our campaign to elect Idaho’s first Indigenous female U.S. Senator and the State’s first Democratic senator in over 40 years. DFA has consistently been on the front lines of our country's most important political and ideological battles supporting grassroots efforts to take meaningful progressive political action. Idahoans are calling out for a progressive champion in Washington who will prioritize people over politics and ensure that every single American gets the fair shot they deserve. Thank you for supporting the people of Idaho in this movement.” -- Paulette Jordan

The endorsement of Jordan is part of DFA’s 2020 “Flip the Senate” strategy, which aims to (a) hold Senate Republicans accountable for the role they played in helping cover up Donald Trump’s White House crimes and (b) end Republican control of a body that could halt inclusive populist reform, even with a Democrat in the White House.

To take the majority in the U.S. Senate, Democrats need to gain just four additional seats. Other U.S. Senate candidates that the grassroots progressive group has endorsed include Charles Booker in Kentucky, Royce West in Texas, Rev. Raphael Warnock in Georgia, Theresa Greenfield in Iowa, Jamie Harrison in South Carolina, Cal Cunningham in North Carolina and Betsy Sweet in Maine.

DFA has 3,964 members in Idaho and more than one million members nationwide.
